Planting Palms

We watched several palm trees being planted around the island. I think they were trying to fix up the village after the devastation incurred by Hurricane Wilma.

I'm surprised by how small the root ball is for a tree that size.

Ah, to bask in the sun's warmth again. 7 more months until spring! (or so it seems)

dusty: I was surprised too! I wonder if the roots spread out after planting. If not, it may be why they are so easily uprooted in a big storm!

I think palms are naturally shallow-rooted. That's why so many of them end up, er, uprooted in hurricanes.

Is it spring yet?

dc: If this is true, it seems odd that they would be prolific in places that get hurricanes! Strange...
