Park(ing) Day 2008

Today was Park(ing) Day 2008. People in several cities take over metered parking spots and transform them into mini green spaces.

That is very interesting, and in certain places and certain times might be frustrating and annoying as well!

I've never heard of such a thing but who cool is that?

And this is such a fun looking shot- nice!

How fabulous! Looks like these folks were serious about their park(ing). Very cool!

Cool idea! I'd add a bike rack to park the bike on the lawn.

friar: I think that is part of the point. They want to discourage people from driving and parking and using other means of transportation. If that happened, there could be more green space instead of parking lots!

professor: Thanks!

d.c.: They certainly seemed to put a lot of effort into that one spot!

dusty: That is a good idea (though there are plenty of bike racks in the vicinity)!

all: Reminds me of the phrase in the song (I think it's called Big Yellow Taxi): "paved paradise and put up a parking lot"
